Our Story

The Spirit of Liverpool is an initiative that aims to uncover hidden stories and make archive accessible to all.

It was created in 2019 to respond critically to the erasure of stories from marginalised groups in Liverpool as well as to explore the relationship between archive and environment

The iniative resulted in two projects supported by the BFI; Reclaiming Women's Histories in Liverpool and Recycle Cinema.

The Spirit of Liverpool contribute to rescue archive from the L8 neighbourhood by preserving them on a digital format.  Under our scheme Home Video Day we partnership with North West Film Archive to add community video to their collection.

To this day, The Spirit of Liverpool continues to work for and by the community to promote that everyone  tells their own story.

The Spirit of Liverpool is formed by Michael Pierce and Monika Rodriguez two Liverpool 8 residents that dream to unite archive all over the world.

They both work for Cinema Nation a Community Interest company based in Merseyside, that supports community cinema of all shape and sizes as well as wellbeing and healing in arts.
